GENERAL

The 2023 Guards Golfing Society (GGS) Autumn meeting will take place at Royal St George’s on Friday 8th September and Saturday 9th September, with a match over 18 holes against the Club on the morning of Sunday 10th September followed by lunch.

All members of the GGS are eligible to play. Numbers are restricted to 28 golfers, so sign up early to avoid disappointment. Maximum handicap of 24 - World Handicap System (WHS) handicaps are encouraged.

PROGRAMME

Friday 8th September 2023

18 holes Singles Stableford for ‘The Stewart Trophy’ (Scratch) and The College Hospital Cup (Handicap). The entry fee is £6 per player. Prizes will be presented in both Scratch and Handicap categories. Play will be from the 1st tee from 1.45 pm. The draw will be circulated to all competitors in the week preceding the meeting.

Please state preferred partner and/or start time on the entry form. Start times will be fitted in with the Club’s other bookings on the day. Caddies should be booked with the Caddie Master 01304 611245.

The Society Dinner for all GGS members and their guests, both ladies and gentlemen, will be held at Royal St George’s Golf Club on Friday evening - 7.30pm for 8.00pm. Dress: Boating Jackets. The cost is £75 per person. Please notify any special dietary requirements on your entry form. The draw for the Auction foursomes will take place at the end of dinner.

PARTICIPATION IN THE AUCTION ON FRIDAY EVENING IS IN NO WAY OBLIGATORY, IT IS COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY

Saturday 11th September 2023

AM - Regimental Foursomes for ‘The Holdsworth Hunt Goblets’ Regimental pairs to be arranged by individuals if you wish. Stableford Bogey under handicap. Mixed and regimental pairs will be arranged prior to the dinner if required. Entry £6 per player to be paid in advance. Prizes may be won by any pair, but only a regimental pair can win the Goblets.

PM - Society Auction Foursomes for ‘The Williams-Bulkeley Bowls’ Stableford Bogey under handicap. Pairs will be drawn at the dinner and auctioned. The same pair may not play together in both the morning and afternoon. Prizes will also be awarded to the winners and the runners-up. The auction rules will be available at the dinner.

NOTE: A SHORT PRIZEGIVING WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE CLUBHOUSE AFTER PLAY ON SATURDAY - PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND

Sunday 10th September 2023

18 hole match v The Royal St George’s Golf Club. The match will start at 9.30 am and will be 10-12 a side. Society members are asked to make themselves available and you do not need to have played in the meeting to play in the match. The Club will treat us to lunch. Individuals may arrange further golf in the afternoon - no green fees will be charged.

ADMINISTRATION

Accommodation

Rooms in the Clubhouse may be available on a first come basis with RSG members having priority. Please let me as soon as you can if you require a room in the Dormy House. Some RSG members may be able to offer accommodation in their homes. I will allocate available accommodation. Otherwise players should make their own arrangements. Some options:

Charges

The charges for the meeting are as follows:

  • Friday - One round £65. Serving Officers £40, or £30 if 30 years of age or younger.
  • Saturday - Two rounds £130. Serving officers £60, or £45 if 30 years of age or younger.
  • Club Members contribution - £25 (Members of Royal St George’s GC only)
  • Dinner on Friday - Society Members £75, Guests £75 for a three-course dinner including half a bottle of wine and port. Additional wine and drinks to be paid for by individuals.
  • Breakfasts - for those staying in the Dormy House or in members’ homes, breakfast will be available in the Club House at your own cost.
  • Lunches - available daily in the snack bar or dining room by own arrangement and cost.
  • Saturday Supper details TBC.
